Valve wouldn’t host Dolphin on Steam because it ‘can’t sit in judgement’ on Nintendo’s fight against emulators-
Last week Nintendo managed to block the Steam release of the Gamecube and Wii emulator Dolphin. Initial reports had it that this was a DMCA takedown, but it soon emerged that—as Dolphin is not yet available for download on Steam—Valve had contacted Nintendo in advance, and been rewarded with a warning shot across the bows.
Valve spokesperson Kaci Aitchison Boyle subsequently confirmed to The Verge that this legal letter came about because Valve had contacted Nintendo. “Given Nintendo’s history of taking action against some emulators, we brought this to their attention proactively after the Dolphin team announced it was coming soon to Steam”.
The legal notice in question, reviewed by PC Gamer, is addressed to Valve’s legal department and dated May 26, 2023.
“Because the Dolphin emulator violates Nintendo’s intellectual property rights, including but not limited to its rights under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act…

Robocop- Rogue City is part man, part machine, and delayed until November-
Robocop: Rogue City is part man, part machine, and all videogame. It’s also delayed, as it turns out, from a planned release in September to November 2, 2023.
The November date was revealed in the description for the latest trailer for the game, which blends a cinematic look at the ever-crumbling Old Detroit with gameplay footage showcasing “detective work and gory shootouts.” Publisher Nacon didn’t provide any explanation for the delay, and in fact the Steam page still indicates that Robocop: Rogue City will launch in September, but this isn’t the first time it’s been pushed back: It was originally supposed to be out sometime in June, but got bumped into September earlier this year.
We had high hopes (or at least cautious optimism) for Robocop: Rogue City back in 2022, fueled largely by nostalgia for Paul Verhoeven’s brilliant 1987 film about the future of law enforcement, but a closer look at the game in June left me cold. Movement is slow and plodding, and while that’…
Baldur’s Gate 3 fans are carving Halloween pumpkins and these are some of my favorites-
We are deep in the heart of the spooky season. I’m scared. Luckily the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit has provided me with some much needed relief amongst the jump scares and spooks, with a collection of BG3-related pumpkin carvings. In an attempt to distract myself from all of the terror and horror, I’ve gone through them and have highlighted some of my favourites. It is worth noting that there will be some minor spoilers included, so be warned.
First up we have from realstibby, the most adorable of my picks, a baby owlbear. They also posted a Karlach carving, but once you look into the eyes of the small owlbear, nothing else will compare.
My mom did an owl bear an a Karlach pumpkin from r/BaldursGate3
Next we have a slightly spookier design from Final_Ad_5757, Astarion’s Scars. This design is probably the most common BG3 design I came across on the subreddit, all of which are far beyond my skill level. I should probably refrain fr…
WoW Classic hardcore player feigns death for so long they actually die-
WoW Classic recently got its own hardcore mode, which for most of us means one thing: people dying and losing enormous amounts of progress in amusing ways (and maniacs hitting max level in a few days). Hardcore modes are increasingly popular across all games, and take various forms, but the common element is permadeath and, in MMOs especially, that can mean hundreds of hours of playtime disappearing in the blink of an eye. Or in this case, when one unfortunate soul shut their eyes for too long.
One of the basic Hunter spells in WoW is ‘feign death’, which allows players to escape enemy attention by keeling over, before popping back up and dishing out the pain. The spell can be channelled for up to six minutes, though typically is used for much shorter durations, and feigning death for the full time limit turns out to have a consequence in Classic that’s long since disappeared from vanilla WoW.
WoW Classic hardcore player Walldewd discovered this because the…
World of Warcraft Classic feels the scourge of the WoW token as a ring is traded for $13,000 worth of in-game gold-
As spotted by GamesRadar, the impact of the WoW token—a way for players to purchase game time, which they can also sell on the auction house for gold—is being felt on the Wrath of the Lich King: Classic servers, with one rare item selling for over 3 million gold in a GDKP auction.
A GDKP is an auction within a raid. Players bid on boss drops with gold—however, the profits are split evenly among the raid when the bidding is over. Have deep pockets? You can snag yourself some rares. Dirt poor? You can just skip the bidding and walk away richer. Everybody wins. Well, in a healthy economy, anyway.
In a reaction clip from Twitch streamer Guzu to streamer Prefoxfox, we see a ring called the Band of Callous Aggression sold for 3 million gold. For context, that’s 15 times the amount a player can actually carry. Cold Weather Flying, a spell that was intended as a gold sink back when Wrath of the Lich King was initially released, costs 1,000. Now it’s just pocket…
WoW’s latest Hearthstone event crushed to death by a tide of roleplayers, as selectively-applied server sharding causes utter chaos-
World of Warcraft’s latest Hearthstone event is receiving some mixed feedback. Mostly because it’s a little confusing, but also because of its chaotic world bosses. In case you’re unfamiliar, here’s the rundown:
In three major cities (Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and Valdrakken) there are hotspots with Hearthstone tables in ’em. Well. Table singular, unless you go to a shady merchant and get a special Hearthstone Wild Card—which’ll let you right-click the item to, uh, play a card near a table. This gives you the vague suggestion of having fun while also letting you complete the quest. If you or one of your mates has the Hearthstone Game Table toy, you can put one down, but it does seem like a bizarre choice from the get-go.
That’s not even the main problem players have been having, though. Every so often, a gnome by the name of Whizbang will tear open a portal and huck a bunch of monsters at the festivities. This has resulted in a great deal of lag. While I was a…
